Nintendo Switch Sales Exceeds Expectations,May Ship 8 Million Units In 13 Months

The sales of the Nintendo Switch during the first three days of its availability earned an approximate of 331,000 units. With that successful performance, reports said that it outshined the sales of the Wii U, which debuted in 2012. As far as records are concerned, the Nintendo Wii U's sales were only about 20,000 units on its initial availability.

Nintendo Switch Is Expected To Ship 8 million Units

According to BGR, the new global estimate sales of the Nintendo Switch is performing just as well everywhere around the world. Lewis Ward, the director of VR/AR as well as gaming at market research firm IDC, said that Nintendo’s new console is flying off store shelves all over the area internationally. Despite the rumors of shortage in supply, Ward believes that Nintendo will still ship certain million Switch console units during its first month of availability alone.

“Switch is on track to ship 2 million by the end of March," Ward confirmed. He also said that the sales record of the new console is considered as a solid start compared to the records of the Wii U. Ward is expecting for the Switch to sell much better in its first year. He believes that Nintendo will ship 8 million Switch consoles through its first full year of availability or in 13 months.

Switch Sales Exceeds Expectations, Thanks To Game Titles

According to CNBC, Nintendo Switch may have hit the jackpot regarding the sale with its new hybrid console with the help of several game titles especially the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The game is getting praise on reviews and is generating a lot of attention in the Nintendo Switch. "Breath of the Wild is being heralded as one of the best games of the year already," Ward said an interview.

Ward suspected that the Zelda game launch title is one of the key reasons why the first week of Switch sales have been very strong. The Breath of the Wild has earned a rating of 98 percent on Metacritic and is currently the fourth highest-rated game title of all time. Metacritic aggregates not just game titles but also the tv show, music, and movie reviews from the leading critics.
