Xbox Charger Overheating Causes Recall, Full Refund To Be Provided

Overheating batteries have caused public concerns recently, brought on significantly by the issue regarding the exploding Samsung Note 7 units last year. More recently, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission as targeted Energizer Xbox One 2X Smart chargers for the same issue. The announcement and subsequent recall began earlier this week.

According to International Business Times, complaints were being issued against the Xbox One Chargers for overheating. The Safety Commission thereby stepped in because of the several hazards that the device could cause. This includes physical damage as users were at the risk of burn threats. In the United States alone, as much as 121,000 units are said to be affected. There are also an estimated 2,560 units in Mexico and another 7,250 units in Canada.

The black Energizer chargers could hold up to two Xbox One controllers. They were distinguished by the "048-052-NA" marker at the bottom of the unit. The threat was initially discovered because several users reported that the chargers were overheating and even deforming. Six of the reports said the item was emitting a burning smell. However, no reports have indicated any sustained injuries. At this point, the recall is a means to stop any possible damages, whether to owners or their property.

The Xbox One Chargers indicate the controllers' charging status via colored LED light. They measure 3.5 inches long, 5 inches wide and 11 inches tall. They also feature AC adapters. Each unit generally cost about US$40. A refund will be provided to those individuals who purchased affected units, but no mention has been made about replacements.

As noted by WKBW, individuals who own these units should contact Performance Designed Products (800-263-1156) for their refund. The Xbox One Charger units were generally sold from February 2016 to February 2017. Best Buy, GameStop, and Amazon were some of the largest distributors.
