In Overwatch, every season brings new and exciting features into the table. However, some changes seem to be regressive rather than progressive. One of the most noticeable changes in Season 4 is the new decay system. Some players argue that while the SR Decay System may encourage one to play the game as consistently as possible, it also has its own drawbacks. Here's why players are disappointed with the new SR Decay System.
Overwatch SR Decay System
The new SR Decay System basically requires players above 3k CPs to play at least seven games a week in order to maintain his current competitive points. What this means is that after completing the placement matches and securing a rank for this season, one must play at least seven competitive games in order to prevent the system from reducing his CPs, which could also potentially mean the removal from his current tier.
The SR Decay System was imposed to establish consistency within the community - encouraging the fans to play as often as possible. Although the intention is good, fans pointed out that the system neglects those that have "more life" outside of the game. One good example is portrayed by one user in Reddit. According to the poster, a friend of his is in the army but his CPs is way above 3k. Due to the nature of his job, it is virtually impossible for him to commit to the seven games/week rule. This means that he will eventually lose the CPs that he accumulated and eventually fall off from the Diamond tier, albeit having the skills to maintain the said rank.
Is It Good Or Bad?
For full-time players, the SR Decay System can be ignored, as the majority of the players are constantly active in the game. However, for those that cannot simply commit to the game, or for those that wanted to take a long break, it is an infuriating inconvenience. As stated by one user, "playing this game shouldn't be a chore."
As a result, some players have not completed their placements yet for the fear of committing to the seven game/week rule. Will Blizzard change the new system imposed in Season 4? Check back for more Overwatch news and updates!
