McLaren has sold out 106 units of its three-seater, $2.5 million "Hyper-GT" and the supercar is yet to enter the production. According to a recent report, the limited Hyper-GTs to be made were scooped up very quickly, with Mike Flewitt, CEO of McLaren saying he was "absolutely inundated with applications," and that he "had to find polite ways to say, 'No,'" to what we're sure were some of McLaren's most loyal customers. The hypercar, which currently carries the code name "BP23" without an official name yet, will carry a whopping a £2 million price tag, which equivalent to $2.5 million USD.
According to a source, the BP23 will be built in very limited numbers that will match the F1's 106-unit production. Flewitt also added that the hypercar is already sold out, with all units being accounted for almost as soon as BP23 was announced. "We are calling BP23 a hyper-GT because it's a car designed for longer journeys, however, with the high levels of performance and driver engagement expected of any McLaren," Flewitt explained. The British car manufacturer has already announced they will only be making 106 examples of the model built, and all will be pre-sold, making it possible for owners to work alongside McLaren Special Operations to select colors, trim materials and as well as, other points of customization unique to them.
With a $2.5 million price tag, which is the same as the Bugatti Chiron, a car that will possibly make its own run at the record next year. The production-ready Hyper-GT is set to arrive in 2019, making a debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show most likely. By then it will have no shortage of competition in the hyper performance category, with Mercedes-Benz is reportedly planning to launch its 1,000+ horsepower Project One later this year.
