Xbox 720 To Release This Holiday Season, Hints Microsoft

Microsoft and Sony seem to be on song to battle it out for top honors this holiday season. While Sony is slated to release its PlayStation 4 in time for the holiday season, Microsoft it seems will follow suit with its Xbox 720.

Aaron Greenberg, a Microsoft executive has indirectly confirmed that the next-gen Xbox 720 will hit the shelves in time for Christmas. Greenberg also let on that quite a few details regarding the console would be shared at the company's May 21 event and E3 2013. The May event would be "laying the foundation" and "tonnes of exclusives" would be revealed next month at the E3.

Speaking in a podcast (latest episode of Major Nelson), Greenberg seemingly mentioned the holiday season launch for the Xbox 720.

"We're really going to tell one story across two events. So we're going to start on the 21st and really that's about revealing the next Xbox platform, really our vision for the future of games, the future of entertainment," revealed Greenberg. "We definitely have a lot of surprises planned....at E3, I mean, if you're a gamer, it's going to be tons of exclusives, world premieres, and obviously even beyond that we have a lot to share between then and this holiday."

Greenberg also let on that "People are going to get a great inside look at the making of the new platform and the team that's brought it to life. To be honest, it's really about the team, the people here. That's why we're inviting people to campus; we're going to bring them behind the scenes a little bit. We've never done this before and so it's really exciting to be able to do that. It's a lot of laying the foundation, probably the best way to describe it. And then just a couple of weeks later we go to E3."

Gamers all over the world are eagerly awaiting the reveal of the next-gen Xbox. Anticipation is high as Microsoft hasn't been too forthcoming on the details.

Microsoft recently registered several web domains including "Fusion," fueling rumors that this could be the moniker for the impending console.

With the May event nearly upon us, we'll have to wait and see what Microsoft has in store.
