The Google I/O event, held from May 15 to May 17, left smartphone enthusiasts disappointed as the company remained silent on the highly-anticipated mobile operating system Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie and the next-generation Nexus smartphone dubbed, the Nexus 5. Now reports suggest that the Nexus 5 will debut in September this year.
Google made the Nexus 4 in collaboration with LG and released the smartphone in Nov. 2012 and the handset still remains one of the most-wanted Android smartphones around. Ever since the launch the Nexus 4 has been surrounded with supply issues; however, now it seems that demand of the handset has subsided a bit and Google is back on track with production as the handset is now available on Google Play Stores in various markets.
The Nexus 4 is popular because of its top-end features coupled with a low price tag. Even though the handset was launched in Nov. 2012, the handset has taken quite a while to reach new markets. The handset is officially available in India from May this year.
Apple is expected to launch the next-generation iPhone 6 and Samsung may launch the Galaxy Note 3 in September this year. If the Nexus 5 is launched at about the same time then the company will have to deploy its best in the upcoming Nexus handset.
The iPhone 6 and the Galaxy Note 3 are the most-anticipated smartphones of the second half of 2013. The predecessors of both the handsets have been extremely popular and welcomed well by both smartphone enthusiasts and tech gurus alike. The iPhone 5 and Galaxy Note 3 both pack top-end features and successors of the handsets will definitely be a step up than their predecessors. As such, Google will have to pull out something special along with the same affordable pricing strategy to compete with iPhone 6 and the Galaxy Note 3.
Google, Apple and Samsung have not announced their plans to launch the Nexus 5, iPhone 6 or the Galaxy Note 3. As such, we will have to wait until an official announcement is made by these three companies.
