New leaks reveal that Overwatch will indeed be getting an anniversary event quite soon with special lootboxes on the way. Meanwhile, the current competitive season is coming to a close with the next one right around the corner.
The Xbox store strikes again with another leak following the original Uprising clip a few weeks back. While many fans speculated a new activity for the game's anniversary, other players were able to datamine information regarding possible skins and content. Now, even the event's lootbox has been accidentally leaked before quickly being taken down.
Each of these special lootboxes will include four cosmetic items which include at least one Anniversary Skin, Spray, Highlight Intro, Victory Pose, Emote, Player Icon or Voice Line. Like with other events, there will be more than 100 Anniversary goodies for fans to collect, as per PVP Live. Similarly, if players get a duplicate Anniversary item, they will be compensated with in-game Credits that they can use to purchase other content.
The description states that Anniversary Lootboxes will be available until June 5 hinting that the event will start much sooner than expected. Judging by the duration of previous occasions, it seems like the Anniversary event will officially begin on May 16, or next Tuesday.
Incidentally, Shacknews reports that Overwatch might also be getting a Game Of The Year (GOTY) edition. Dataminers have discovered that this specific edition will include ten free lootboxes, origins skins for five heroes, Tracer for Heroes of the Storm and a baby Winston for World of Warcraft. However, Blizzard has yet to share the finer details for any GOTY editions.
Finally, Heavy shares that the current competitive season will also be ending this month in preparation for Season 5. While Blizzard has yet to give an exact date, the next competitive season will begin on June 1. Those who participated this season will be getting competitive points judging by the rank they placed in.
For now, fans will have to wait for further news regarding the Anniversary event and the GOTY edition. Those who want to participate in the upcoming competitive season can get Overwatch for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
