AT&T shows off the water-resistant feature of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active on video

AT&T has uploaded a new video to its YouTube page showing and pretty much confirming what we reported recently - the carrier will be getting an exclusive on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active. The video teases viewers by showing the water-resistant feature of the smartphone as it is dropped into a glass of water. AT&T is expected to launch the Galaxy S4 Active on June 13.

The Galaxy S4 Active was supposed to be one of many smartphones Samsung had planned on officially announcing at its Galaxy and ATIV press event on June 20 in London. A few weeks ago images of the tougher Galaxy S4 appeared online and soon official specs followed. We had reported earlier that the device would be coming to AT&T, since leaked images of the smartphone clearly showed AT&T branding.

Soon after the AT&T images leaked, Samsung was forced to officially announce the Galaxy S4 Active. The handset is part of the Galaxy S4 family and will join both the Galaxy S4 Mini and Galaxy S4 Zoom in Samsung's lineup. The "Active" name was given to the smartphone because it is both water- and dust-resistant; the video below clearly highlights its ability to operate while being submerged in water.

The Galaxy S4 Active is more on par in terms of specs with the flagship Galaxy S4 than the Galaxy S4 Mini or Galaxy S4 Zoom. The rugged smartphone features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 TFT display with 441ppi (pixels per inch), runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean with Samsung's TouchWiz Nature UX interface, is powered by a 1.9GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, with an Adreno 320 GPU, includes 16GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera with autofocus and LED flash, 2-megapixel front facing camera, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, 4G LTE radio, microSD expansion slot with support for up to 64GB microSD cards, is IP67 certified water and dust resistant, and includes a 2600 mAh battery.

As shown in the video, the real highlight of the Galaxy S4 Active is that the smartphone is water resistant up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. AT&T ends the teaser video by telling us we'll find out more on June 13. The smartphone will reportedly be offered in two color choices from AT&T - Dive Blue and Urban Gray.
