A new report claims that HTC is working on a new Windows Phone 8 handset that will look very similar to its current Android flagship smartphone, the HTC One.
HTC has a hit on its hands with the HTC One. The smartphone maker decided to take a different approach when building the device compared to its rivals - it focused on using quality materials when building the device, like an anodized aluminum unibody case wrapped around an HD Gorilla Glass 2 display. The smartphone has won rave reviews, with most pointing out its design as its best feature. The company is reportedly also planning two new variants of the device - the HTC One Mini and HTC One Max. The devices will use the same aluminum and glass design that made the HTC One a success.
A new report now claims that HTC is planning on using this same strategy with an upcoming Windows Phone 8 smartphone. According to a source, the smartphone will look very similar to the HTC One. The device is reported as having a 4 to 5-inch display and an aluminum unibody case. The tipster also claims that it will feature Beats Audio along with front-facing stereo speakers and possibly use HTC's UltraPixel technology for its camera.
The smartphone will reportedly run an updated version of the Windows Phone 8 operating system called GDR3. Microsoft is expected to release the update later this year. GDR3 will be a substantial update for Windows Phone; it will bring features like a notification center, a third column of Live Tiles on the home screen, support for 1080p full HD displays, and quad-core processors. If this report is true, HTC will not have to stray too far from the specs of its flagship smartphone to use with its new Windows Phone handset.
The report claims that HTC will announce the Windows phone 8 handset in the fall and ship it later in the year. We'll have to file this in the rumor category for now, but it if this does pan out, Windows Phone fans are going to be in for a powerful aluminum treat, thanks to HTC.
