Recent leaks and FCC appearances have put Google's second-generation Nexus 7 in the limelight lately and new reports now point to a July 11 launch.
Motorola and Google apparently have a joint press event scheduled for Thursday, July 11. Reports have suggested that Motorola will launch the Moto X phone on July 11 and now Google too is apparently gearing up to take the wraps off the second-gen Nexus 7.
"A gadget unpacking is set to occur this week, specifically on July 11, as Google will reportedly take the stage to introduce its new iPad Mini killer - the powerful and still affordable Nexus 7 2," reports IBTimes.
PopHerald also claims that the second-generation Nexus 7 will share the release date with the Moto X smartphone, alleged to be on July 11.
"Apart from the Moto X Phone, consumer electronic pundits are closely watching Google's new Nexus 7 tablet, the rumored Nexus 7 2 manufactured by ASUS - and similar to the Moto X Phone, the tablet computer is expected to arrive this month according to reports citing filings like FCC, leaks and other 'data'," the publication reports.
However, as we reported earlier today, CNET's sources have contradicted the July 11 release for the Moto X phone and disclosed that "Motorola has something else to share with journalists" at the press event.
Recently, an ASUS employee allegedly leaked the specs of the upcoming Nexus 7 tablet (codenamed ASUS K009) via a chat and let on that the Android 4.3-powered device will release by the end of July.
The next-generation Nexus 7 is expected to tout a 7-inch display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. The upcoming tablet is further expected to pack a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon Pro processor clocked at 1.5GHz.
What's more, Google is also expected to introduce a 5-megapixel rear-facing camera in the second-gen Nexus 7 tablet, a feature that is notably absent in the current Nexus 7.
While several rumors have hinted at a July release for the Nexus 7's successor, whether Google will indeed reveal the device this week remains to be seen. Google could announce the tablet on July 11 and release it a few weeks later, but nothing is certain so far.
