We know that BlackBerry will be releasing a 5-inch smartphone sometime in the fall. The handset has been dubbed the A10, but a new report claims it will officially be called the BlackBerry Z30.
BlackBerry has faced a tough time in trying to regain users for its new BB10 OS running on its latest BlackBerry Z10 and Q10 smartphones. The company has created a relatively well-received next-generation operating system, but sales of its smartphones have proved to be an embarrassment. When revealing its most recent earnings, BlackBerry faced criticism for not wanting to reveal how many BB10 smartphones it had sold, only to reveal later that it sold 6.8 million smartphones. Only 2.7 million of those, however, were Z10s and Q10s, as more consumers purchased its older BB7 Bold and Curve devices.
BlackBerry is not giving up without a fight and plans on releasing one more BB10 smartphone in 2013. The handset has been codenamed 'Aristo' and has picked up the name of BlackBerry A10, but a new report claims the company plans on keeping it in the 'Z' family by calling it the BlackBerry Z30. A user from the CrackBerry forums discovered references in pre-release BlackBerry 10.2 code that labeled the smartphone as the Z30. Another member uncovered tutorial resources and images that seem to further confirm the device will officially be called the Z30. It makes sense, since the company names its all-touch series under the Z brading, while both the Q10 and Q5 names are for the QWERTY smartphones.
The BlackBerry Z30 is expected to feature the largest BlackBerry screen to date, a 5-inch Super AMOLED display. It will run the BB10 OS 10.2 and will be powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, and it will also include another first - a separate graphics processing unit, in the form of a reported Adreno 320 GPU. It will pack 16GB of internal storage, have a microSD expansion slot that will support up to 64GB microSD cards, and will also have a large 2,800 mAh battery.
Many leaks have also surfaced recently showing AT&T branding on the Z30's back case. The smartphone is expected to join the carrier's lineup this fall.
