Apple Watch's "Extreme Sports" version is reportedly seeing the light of day this year with a new rugged look.
The new rugged variant of the Apple smart wearable reportedly gets a larger screen and a durable case to suit rugged conditions.
Apple Watch 'Extreme Sports'
A news story by The Verge reports that the iPhone maker is working on a new sports version of its Apple Watch, which precisely serves "extreme sports athletes."
The Bloomberg journalist, Mark Gurman, hinted at the upcoming "Extreme Sports" Apple Watch version in his latest report.
Gurman claims that the new smartwatch variant flaunts the largest-ever screen we have seen from an Apple Watch.
And besides the display upgrade, he predicts that the "Extreme Sports" version features a more durable design, which includes a metal casing.
Apple Watch 'Extreme Sports' Display
The Bloomberg journalist, who reliably predicts future Apple offerings, gave explicit details about the larger screen of the "Extreme Sports" version.
According to the latest report by Tech Crunch, Gurman says that its display is about to be seven percent bigger than the largest Apple Watch these days.
He notes that the screen would be less narrow, stretching by roughly two inches diagonally. What's more, the display of the sports edition reportedly boasts up to 410 pixels by 502 pixels of resolution.
Gurman suggests that Apple is going with a massive screen to include more fitness information in its smart wearable. After all, it is for those with active lifestyles, such as athletes.
Rugged Apple Watch: Is it More Durable?
The "Extreme Sport" Apple Watch is about a larger display exclusively. It also reportedly espouses a rugged overall design.
Gurman highlights that the upcoming sports variant ditches the aluminum casing in favor of a more durable metal material.
The Verge notes in its report that the stainless steel case of the current Apple Watch is susceptible to scratches. So, it might not be the best for athletes.
The journalist also claims that the "Extreme Sports" variant boasts a shatter-resistant screen. But Gurman did not say which material Apple plans to use.
The Apple Watch offering for extreme sports athletes is likely to sell at roughly $699, which The Verge points out is the same pricing as the current stainless steel option.
Apple Watch Series 8
The rumored rugged Apple Watch is debuting along with the upcoming Apple Watch Series 8 later this year. Not to mention that the renowned iPhone maker also plans to introduce an all-new Apple Watch SE.
