Gmail’s New Interface is Becoming Available to All Users

Google is rolling out a refreshed interface for Gmail, and this has become increasingly available to all users of the tech giant's free Web mail service.

Google Meet, Chat, Spaces Apps Integrated Onto Gmail, with Material Design 3

This refresh includes pulling other Google services, such as Meet, Chat, and Spaces into the Gmail interface as an integrated offering, together with elements from Google's Material Design 3.

More Gmail Enhancements Forthcoming

In addition to those changes, enhancements are forthcoming, such as a better tablet interface, improved emoji support, and increased accessibility features, among others.

How to Revert to Old Gmail Look, Enable or Disable Apps

Corporate users might have the new interface rolled out. But for those who opt not to implement the changes to their Gmail interface change, they can switch back to the old look. If you have not enabled Chat, you will still experience the new look, although in a default Gmail-only view. If you don't any of the mentioned apps, you can disable or enable them from the Quick Settings menu.

To switch back to the old look:

  • At the top right, click Settings.
  • Under Quick Settings, click Go back to the original Gmail view.
  • In the new window, click Reload.

The refreshed interface places Mail, Meet, Spaces, and Chat buttons as part of one list at the top of the left rail instead of having a number of conversations from each app in a list. These apps remain easily accessible even without having al of them showing on the screen simultaneously, and users can jump into a conversation at an instant in any section, as a list will appear as you hover over its icon.

New Look Part of Google's Fresh Workspace Suite Approach

These changes form part of Google's new approach to its Workspace suite, which includes Docs, Sheets, etc. that is seen to offer an increasingly unified style and fresh AI-powered offerings, such as the Gmail search improvements recently announced.

The refreshed look exudes a new app menu experience, which will assist users in having a simpler time exploring the Google apps you need. The latest version of Gmail repositions the column that carries Chat, Spaces, and Meet, brings them to the left-hand side of the screen. You'll also now see Chat message notification bubbles pop up instead of the whole conversation appearing in the middle of the interface. This is to help lessen distractions while composing or sending an email.

New Search Chips to Filter Out More Important Messages Within Archive

The new Gmail also adopts search chips or additional criteria that can be utilized to filter out important messages within your inbox. This allows quicker searches for specific conversations within your archive than previous methods.
