Rogers may soon launch the Nokia Lumia 1020 in Canada

Canadian customers may soon get the Nokia Lumia 1020 as rumors suggest that Rogers will release the handset soon.

The Nokia Lumia 920 has been Rogers' Windows Phone 8 (WP8) smartphone for quite some time. Nokia has already launched a number of top-end WP8 smartphones, including the Lumia 925, Lumia 928 and the Lumia 1020 after the launch of Lumia 920. However, none of these handsets have arrived in Canada so far.

"We've been informed that Rogers will bring on a new Nokia Windows Phone 8 device in the coming months, specifically the Lumia 1020 in October. This will be exclusive and Rogers and they'll continue their relationship with Microsoft in being the flagship WP8 carrier in Canada," reports Mobile Syrup.

WP8 smartphones have received a lot of popularity since launch in the later part of last year. Nokia has been aggressively launching new handsets in the market and is currently the biggest WP8 smartphone maker.

Canadian carrier Rogers is currently selling only a handful of WP8 handsets, which include the Nokia Lumia 920, Lumia 520 and the HTC 8X. Rogers customers will be happy to find a new top-end smartphone in the carrier's portfolio as soon as possible.

The Nokia Lumia 1020 sports a 4.5-inch AMOLED PureMotion HD+ display with 1,280 x 768 pixels resolution and 332 pixels per inch (ppi). A 1.5-GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, Adreno 225 GPU and 2GB of RAM power the handset.

The smartphone has 32GB of on-board storage with no option to expand via a microSD card. More importantly, it also touts a 41-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED and Xenon flash, as well as Optical Image Stabilization (OIS), which is one of the key selling features of the handset. The device also features a 1.2-megapixel secondary camera.

The Lumia 1020 also includes a 2,000mAh battery that offers up to 13 hours of talk time on 3G and up to 16 days of standby time.

The handset may definitely attract customers looking out for a top-end WP8 smartphone with high-end camera capabilities. For now we will have to wait until Rogers makes an official announcement of the Lumia 1020 and confirms details regarding availability, price and colors.
