Nokia Lumia 1020’s camera faces white balance issues

A recent report suggests that the 41-megapixel camera of the new Nokia Lumia 1020 faces white balance issues.

Nokia has launched a number of Windows Phone 8 smartphones in 2013 and the Lumia 1020 was one of the most anticipated Nokia handsets on this year. The smartphone boasts a 41-megapixel PureView camera, which attracts customers who are looking to buy a smartphone with high-end camera capabilities. However, a recent GottaBeMobile report suggests that the handset's camera faces white balance issues and brings yellow-tinged pictures.

GottaBeMobile reports that it used the Samsung Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Lumia 1020 at the "It Can Wait" premiere of Warner Herzog's "From One Second to the Next" documentary and the images captured from the Lumia 1020 produced show a yellow tinge.

"While the Nokia was able to nail a few shots with auto white balance, for the most part images were unusable straight out of the camera. Adjusting the white balance to one of the preloaded settings sometimes help, but wasn't a perfect fix and most of the times the adjustments did not help with the resulting out of camera image," reports GottaBeMobile.

The GottaBeMobile report claims that the Lumia 1020 camera performs well under most conditions, which includes outdoors, under low light with and without the flash, and even indoors with a variety of indoor lighting. However, under the stressful lighting conditions of the red carpet, the Lumia 1020 didn't perform very well.

"In general, both the Galaxy S4 Zoom and the Lumia 1020 had white balance issues, but the Samsung didn't suffer to an extreme as the Lumia 1020′s out of camera images show. Where the Lumia 1020 really shines is the low light performance. The Lumia's images appear to be sharper and there's less blur," added GottaBeMobile.

The Lumia 1020 includes a large sensor, Xenon flash, Zeiss optics and lossless digital zooming technology with optical image stabilization (OIS) and is running on Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 platform. The handset is currently one of the most popular camera handsets around. Customers who buy the Lumia 1020 may use the handset for picture taking purposes and will want high quality output from the captured images.
