Our planet probably has billions of years ahead of it before it becomes inhabitable, provided, of course, that we don't pollute it beyond repair. There are several movies that show what the end of the world would look like, and here are a few of them.
1. '2012'
The idea of 2012 being the year that the world ends came from the Mayan Calendar, as it doesn't go beyond December 21, 2012. The movie did not exactly revolve around that. Instead, it was about the Earth's core heating up to the point of disaster.
What makes the movie frightening is that it's actually quite possible. A massive earthquake can be followed by a slew of natural disasters like volcanic eruptions, aftershocks, tsunamis, landslides, sinkholes, and so on.
You can watch it on Netflix.
2. 'Armageddon'
A recent study shows that there are no asteroids wider than a kilometer that will hit Earth within a thousand years, and we already have certain measures in place to prevent planet-killing events like that such as NASA's DART, which deflects asteroids from its trajectory.
Still, the movie shows the valiant efforts of the protagonist, Bruce Willis, along with his team which includes a character played by Ben Affleck. The mission is to blow the asteroid up using a nuclear bomb, as mentioned in Country Living.

3. 'This Is The End'
If you're getting anxious about all the ideas of the world ending, maybe you might instead watch something that makes a comedy out of it, which is exactly what this movie does. Comedy veterans like James Franco, Seth Rogen, and Jonah Hill star in the film.
If anything, the movie is actually star-studded as you see a lot of short cameos from artists and actors like Channing Tatum, Michael Cera, Rihanna, and more. The remaining people try to redeem themselves in order to "ascend " in the funniest way possible.

4. 'The Day After Tomorrow'
The movie can also serve as a good wake-up call for a few as it shows one of the possible effects of climate change. In this scenario, it's an ice age, but in our current predicament, scientists say it's global warming, which is backed by data as well.
A father and son played by Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal attempt to survive as extreme weather starts to break out in the US, as pointed out by Good House Keeping. The survivors head to the New York Public Library figuring out a way to get rescued.

5. 'Interstellar'
"Interstellar" shows us a time when the Earth has become so uninhabitable that its crops are harder to grow and they are faced with dust storms due to the drought. Since it wasn't going to get any better, astronauts were sent to space to look for other planets.
Although it doesn't exactly show much of the world transitioning to ruin. It's more about the astronauts played by Anne Hathaway and Matthew McConaughey traveling through space to inspect prospective planets. Still, it's a great movie and deserves the attention it got.
