Apple is reportedly gearing up for some upgrades on its M3 chip as the company started testing it on a new Mac.
The new Mac with model identifier "Mac15,12" is reportedly running with an M3 chip and might be the new version of the Mac mini.
Apple's Mac Mini Tests M3 Chip
The company has been testing M3 chips with third-party applications to ensure its compatibility with the Apple ecosystem. In a Bloomberg report by Mark Gurman, one M3 version has 12-core CPU, 18-core GPU, and 36GB of memory. However, his latest report suggest that the M3-powered Mac testing is now running with 8-core CPU, 10-core GPU, and 24GB of RAM.
"Given the M3 chip's specifications in this particular Mac, I believe it probably represents a next-generation Mac mini," Gurman guessed.
Meanwhile, the previous spec report is still in line for testing and is suspected to be the base for M3 Pro chips as it aligns with current specs of M2 Pro chips with 10-core CPU and 16-core GPU.
The following are the reported different M3-powered Macs as per Gurman's report:
- M3 13-inch MacBook Air (codenamed Mac 15,1 and J513/J613)
- M3 15-inch MacBook Air (codenamed Mac 15,2 and J515/J615)
- M3 13-inch MacBook Pro (codenamed Mac 15,3 and J504)
- M3 iMac (codenamed Mac 15,4, Mac 15,5, J433 and J434)
- M3 Pro and M3 Max 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros (codenamed Mac 15,7, Mac 15,8, J514 and J516)
- Possible M3 Mac mini (codenamed Mac 15,12)

iPhone 15 is Coming Soon
Other than the M3 testing, some upgrades are also launching in the Apple ecosystem. If the company will stick to its usual calendar, Apple is set to unveil iPhone 15 on September. This launch might be the answer to Apple's decreasing iPhone sales.
Other upgrades and new products that were introduced during the WWDC 2023, are expected to roll out one by one this 2023 until early 2024.
