Threads is among the leading alternatives for X, formerly Twitter, and it is slowly becoming the social networking platform that people would gladly spend their time on. With more and more features being added, trending topics might also be included soon.
Trending Topics on Threads
Meta might be adding the feature soon wherein the most talked about subject on the platform will be indicated, along with the number of threads it received. It will be shown near the search app based on the leaked screenshots from a Meta employee.
A developer, William Max reposted the screenshots, as well as clarifying that he wasn't the leaker in the post. Max said that he simply follows many engineers and employees working at Meta, and one of them accidentally posted the screenshot that was meant to be private.
"Fortunately for us, I happened to see it at the right moment. I will not disclose who posted the screenshot for obvious reasons," he added. When asked if it was a concept or a real screenshot, Max said reiterated that it was real and was posted accidentally, as per Engadget.
Not much is revealed on how the trending topics feature works, although it is known based on the leak that it is not ranked based on the number of threads. For instance, Drake's new song "For All the Dogs" ranked first at 59.4K threads while "Loki Season 2" was ranked fourth with 91k threads.
Meta themselves haven't confirmed the leaked screenshot, so it's not clear if the feature will be made public at all. Still, the cat's out of the bag, and users would be glad to see which topics are trending just as they would on X.
More Features for Threads
Threads is actually getting ahead of X in some areas, such as its plans to add an edit button for the microblogging site. With some typos being hard to ignore, users should have the choice to edit the mistake without having to delete the post and republish a corrected version.
Developer Alessandro Paluzzi spotted the feature wherein a user can still edit their thread within five minutes of posting it. There will be a timer that indicates how much time is left until it becomes permanent, as reported by The Verge.
The app also has a following tab now, where a user would only see posts from people they follow, as opposed to the previous feed which was a mix of people they follow and those that are suggested by the app's algorithm.
With the following tab, Threads is at the same level as X, but the former beats the latter when it comes to the edit button, especially since the feature is only available to people on X who are subscribing to X Blue.
In addition to that, Threads still remains free of charge with no future plans of being placed behind a paywall, unlike X owner Elon Musk planning to make his platform a pay-to-access app in an effort to eliminate bots.
