Minecraft Taps Jack Black for Upcoming Live-Action Film Adaptation

Jack Black is reportedly cast to join the upcoming live-action adaptation of "Minecraft" for Warner Bros, as Deadline first announced. He will star along with Jason Momoa and Matt Berry.

Progress on 'Minecraft' Live-Action Film

Previously, it was announced that the film would begin shooting in August 2023. However, it seems that they are still figuring out the final touches for the production. The film will be based on the popular video game from Mojang, Minecraft.

Aside from Momoa and Berry, other cast members such as Emma Myers from "Wednesday" and Danielle Brooks from "The Color Purple" are also joining the cast. Meanwhile, Black has been previously a hit from his portrayal in "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" last year.

As of writing, there are no definite details on the film. The "Minecraft" live-action will follow the Ender Dragon on his journey as he stumbles on various adventures that will require him to have the Overworld.

'Minecraft' Live-Action Production

So far, the production has been very secretive in its process as there are still no descriptions for any characters that have been revealed. Warner Bros. is keeping a tight lid on it aside from the official logline.

From what we know right now, it will be directed by Jared Hess. In addition, the film will be co-produced by Legendary, Vertigo, and Mojang.

Meanwhile, Roy Lee, Mary Parent, Jon Berg, Cale Boyter, Mojang's Lydia Winters, Vu Bui, and the late Jill Messick will be producing the film. Momoa will also join as the producer under On the Roam.

"Minecraft" is expected to be released on April 4, 2025 in the U.S.
