We are still pained by the departure of Henry Cavill from "The Witcher," but it's only fair to give the new actor for the protagonist Geralt of Rivia a chance. Up until yesterday, all we could do was picture how Liam Hemsworth would fare as the titular character. Now, the trailer shows what exactly that would look like.
Liam Hemsworth as 'The Witcher'
When the news about Liam Hemsworth being cast as Geralt hit the internet, the show's fans were in an uproar as the disappointment with Cavill was relatively fresh. Unfortunately for the new Geralt actor, all the hate was redirected to him.
Many attempted to place Hemsworth's face on the character's body just to see how it looked, and no one was pleased about it, probably because of the shoddy edit. Then, there were the photos of Hemsworth on set that lacked a few more pixels to make out.
This time, we won't have to rely on fan edits and zoomed photos of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt since Netflix finally released an official trailer. It's even reminiscent of the first episode in season one where Geralt killed a kikimora.
The trailer is only a minute long, and only half of it shows the actor. The camera follows Geralt holding on to Roach's rope, and then it switches to the actor who glances back, finally revealing what we have been waiting for all this time.
A lot can agree that Liam Hemsworth looks the part, even though there has been enormous and undeserved hate towards the actor. Now that we saw his looks, let's hope that he can also capture the way Geralt speaks.
As mentioned in PC Gamer, Cavill did so well with his low and raspy voice, which was what fans of the video games are already used to. It's likely that Hemsworth would speak in that manner as well, especially since it has become a defining trait for Geralt.
Other than that, it would interesting to see how Netflix explains the switch. The show might appeal to the fictional aspect of the show to make something up, or they can just continue on like there was no actor switch at all.
Season 4 is Currently in Production
Anytime now, we will be seeing Liam Hemsworth in action on the small screen. The show is already shooting the episodes for the next season. It will be filmed back-to-back with the fifth season, which happens to be the last.
"The Witcher" creator Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said: "It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia," as per Netflix.
The last two seasons will cover three books from Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series, namely "Baptism of Fire," "The Tower of the Swallow," and "Lady of the Lake." Let's hope that the actor puts in the same amount of passion Cavill did, especially since he mentioned that he was also a fan of the franchise.
