Dr Disrespect continues to feel the consequences of his actions after a Twitch employee revealed the reason behind his ban back in 2020. After already being cut off by a studio he co-founded, the streamer is now being removed from a game he was featured in.
Dr Disrespect Will Be Removed from NBA 2K24
The aftermath of the issue surrounding the then-Twitch streamer has been spreading across Dr Disrepect AKA Guy Beahm's other deals. Just recently, the studio he co-founded called Midnight Society has terminated its relationship with him.
Now, likely fearing the idea of being linked to someone with the content creator's offense, NBA 2K24 is also cutting ties to Dr Disrespect by removing him from the game, which others have questioned why it happened in the first place.
Dexerto posted on X saying that 2K has confirmed the removal. The character would be removed from the next patch of the basketball game, although it will be on the Season 9 patch considering that the Season 8 patch was released just a few days earlier.
That means that with the Season 8 release, which is set to go live this June 28th, Dr Disrespect's character will still be present, also sporting his defining wig, headset, and sunglasses that he always wears in streams.
Turtle Beach Joins the Club
NBA 2K24 removing Dr Disrespect from the game is a minor blow to the streamer. One that would greatly affect the streamer's business is the one where Turtle Beach terminates its relationship with Guy Beahm.
In case you don't know, the gaming headset and accessory company has been sponsoring Beahm's YouTube livestreams for years, meaning that the partnership was a huge source of revenue for Dr Disrespect.
After the issue emerged, Turtle Beach found that the right move was to cut ties with him as well. All the company said was: "We will not be continuing our partnership with Guy Beahm/DrDisRespect," as per IGN.
Just to put into perspective how deep of a relationship the streamer has with the brand, Beahm signed a multi-year deal in 2020 through its ROCCAT accessories brand, with the most recent deal being signed in January 2023.
Turtle Beach even has a Dr Disrespect-themed headset, along with a dedicated merchandise page on the Turtle Beach website along with branded items. That has since been taken down by the company and can no longer be purchased.
What's the Issue?
Social media is flooded with Dr Disrespect memes along with criticism and even statements defending the streamer. The issue goes back as far as 2020 when Dr Disrespect was permanently banned from Twitch.
Both the streaming site and the streamer stayed silent all these years until a former Twitch employee revealed the reason behind the ban, saying that Guy Beahm was having inappropriate conversations with a minor through the now-defunct Twitch whispers.
He added that the content creator was also trying to meet up with the minor at TwitchCon. Dr Disprespect has admitted to the accusations, although he clarified that he never met up with the fan all while admitting that he made a mistake.
