The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris is just around the corner. Fortunately, fans outside France can still support their favorite teams and home country in real-time with NBC's live streaming on Peacock.
The recent Olympics is filled with an exciting lineup of sports, spanning traditional and new events. Fans are also looking forward to seeing the results of the long preparation made by France to cater to and honor athletes around the globe.
Whether you're a long-time Olympics fan or a newbie to sports, here are some of the much-awaited events that you should not miss:
Breaking
Breakdancing, also identified by the event as Breaking, is set to make its Olympic debut in Paris. The sport will feature two events for women and men with a total of 16 competitors for solo battles.
The athletes are expected to showcase a combination of moves like windmills, freezes, 6-step, and more. The choreography must be improvised based on the DJ's tracks.
The event will start on August 9 for women and August 10 for men. The winners will be determined on the same day after hours of round-robin.
Artistic Gymnastics
The U.S. holds an impressive feat in the Olympics for artistic gymnastics. Americans are most likely to root for their athletes during the event, making it one of the most anticipated events.
Team USA has consistently dominated the sports for decades, collecting a huge medal record. The event will also see the comeback of Simone Biles after her hiatus from the previous Olympics.
Aside from Biles, fans should also watch out for the performances of Sunisa Lee. The gymnast won a gold medal for the all-around program in Tokyo.
Swimming and Artistic Swimming
Outside of gymnastics, the country is also popular for its excellence in swimming. Athletes like Michael Phelps, Mark Spitz, and Katie Ledecky made their country proud after years of competing in the Olympics.
The 2024 Olympics is set to introduce a new pool of talent from Team USA after the retirement of the legendary swimmers. Fans should watch out for rising athletes from other countries as well.
Artistic swimming, popularly known as synchronized swimming, is acknowledged for the unique performances brought by various athletes. Several iconic routines from previous Olympics still captivate fans. The event will be performed by teams, duets, and solo athletes.
Sport Climbing
On its second run, sports climbing is back in the Olympics. The sport brings the challenges of an indoor rock-climbing competition featuring a 49-foot inverted wall. Three different events will be done to test athletes.
The main event requires athletes to scale the wall within six minutes without any familiarity with the route beforehand. One-on-one elimination rounds will be done through speed climbing. The last event features a 13-foot wall and requires athletes to boulder without a safety rope.
Surfing
The surfing event will take place in Tahiti, challenging the athletes to ride the famous Teahopo'o wave. 48 surfers will compete to impress the judges with a variety of tricks in terms of types and difficulty.
The surfing event will take place from July 28 to August 5.
