Netflix Announces 'Squid Game' Release Dates, Final Season

Netflix revealed that "Squid Game" season 2 is scheduled to premiere on the platform on December 26 and will be followed by its final season the following year.

The series first premiered in 2021 and became one of the most viewed shows on the platform during the pandemic.

Netflix Caps Off 'Squid Game' Ahead of Season 2 Premiere

In a blog post, Netflix announced that the much-awaited second season of the show is finally coming just before the year ends. Series showrunner Hwang Dong-hyuk also confirmed the status of the third season.

"The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man's] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year," he stated.

The production for the second season took three years to complete. Fans were completely surprised that it would not take that long for them to see the third and final season of the show.

In a letter, Hwang took a trip down memory lane. He reminded the fans of the most vital part of the first season which introduced the nature of the survival game.

He also acknowledged how the fans took the cliffhanger final episode of the first season which hinted some details about the truth behind the games. Seong Gi-hun vowed to take revenge and decided to rejoin the game after winning.

"I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new 'Squid Game' grow and bear fruit through the end of this story," Hwang added. He also assured the fans that the production is working hard to create another "thrill ride" until the end of the series.

Netflix is expected to release more details about the third season once season two concludes its run.
