A Slim iPhone 17 'Air' is Reportedly Coming—Here’s What It Offers

All eyes are on Apple's iPhone 17 as it will reportedly debut its "slim" variant. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman via his Power On newsletter has claimed claimed that it will reportedly be referred to as the "Air" model of the iPhone 17.

The release of the iPhone 17 follows what is said to be a somewhat "mid" release of the iPhone 16 series. Apple previously said that the iPhone 16 is being seen as a step into next-generation smartphones.

Gurman talked about the next-gen iPhone 17 series and focused on a reported slim version is said to be be called the "Air." This term has been previously been used before by Apple for other devices, such as the iPad Air and MacBook Air. It should be noted that this was never used previously for the iPhone series.

It was claimed by Gurman that this will allegedly be the fourth iPhone 17 version following in addition to the standard model, the Pro, and the Pro Max. Apple is said to have experimented on this smaller version before with 2020's iPhone 12 mini, but it was not as successful as other models. It has since been replaced by the Plus model.

In 2025, the Cupertino giant will have a diverse offering of its smartphones with a reported back-to-back release of the iPhone 17 "Air" and a speculated iPhone SE 4.

What to Expect from iPhone 17 'Air' in the Future?

The iPhone 17 'Air' will reportedly sit in between the iPhone 17's base variant and the Pro series. This option is said to feel like an upgrade from the iPhone 17. However, it is alleged that it will not have both the power and the cameras of the Pro and Pro Max.

It will, however, offer a thinner aluminum body that will also bring a smaller 6.6-inch display, according to Gurman, with its rear camera layout also getting a revamp.

Apple's Development of the Upcoming iPhones

This year, Apple is focused on its development and production of the iPhone 16 series, but it will not be as massive as the iPhone 14 and 15 release, which both had upgrades made available to users. It should be noted that the iPhone 14 Pro series introduced the Dynamic Island to all, while the iPhone 15 series debuted the USB-C connector adoption.

The iPhone 15 Pro series, on the other hand, also introduced the Action button, which revamped the slider feature that has been a staple on the iPhone lineup all these years.

The reported "Air" model for the iPhone 17 will, upon its release, be an addition to the upgrades that Apple has made for its iPhones through the years. A slimmer iPhone will cater to those who do not like the size of the usual iPhone models. While it may not be as powerful as the Pro series, it will be a welcomed upgrade to the standard iPhone without costing as much as the Pro models.
