The highly-anticipated iPhone 6 stars in a fresh batch of leaks, showing off its purported sapphire display in two videos and a set of images.
Apple is widely expected to launch two large-screen versions of its next-generation smartphone: one with a 4.7-inch panel and the other with a massive 5.5-inch display. The iPhone 6 has leaked extensively in recent leaks, especially the smaller 4.7-inch model.
Previous rumors claimed that Apple was looking to move from Gorilla Glass protection to an in-house Sapphire glass solution for its iPhone 6, and video footage now seems to bolster such claims. First off, a YouTube video shows off the purported iPhone 6's display, allegedly made of sapphire, as it undergoes some rough testing.
This video comes from well-known gadget reviewer Marques Brownlee (MKBHD), showing how durable the sapphire display of the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 6 will be. As you can see in the first video below, the reviewer scratches the display with a knife and a pair of keys, then bends the panel to an impressive degree. The display doesn't show any signs of cracking or damage, suggesting that Apple will focus more on durability and flexibility with its next-generation iPhone. MKBHD emphasizes that this is not a mockup, but a straight-off-the-assembly-line iPhone 6 component from Apple.
A second video, meanwhile, comes from an anonymous retailer in Hong Kong, as credited by French publication Nowhereelse. This four-minute clip shows an alleged sapphire panel of a white iPhone 6, revealing a 4.7-inch diagonal screen that's about 4.1 inches long and 2.36 inches wide. Famous leaker Sony Dickson, who provided accurate information about the current iPhones before their debut, has also posted the same video on Twitter. Dickson also claims that the panel shown in the video is made of sapphire.
Lastly, Nowhereelse has also shared a batch of images showing the front panel of the purported 4.7-inch iPhone. The leaked photos show the front panel with cutouts for the front camera, Apple's Touch ID fingerprint scanner below the display, and the typical set of sensors above the screen.
Apple is widely expected to take the wraps off its new-generation iPhone 6 in September, with Sept. 19 rumored as the most likely launch date. It remains unclear at this point whether both the 4.7- and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models will debut at the same time.
Keep in mind that all iPhone 6 information is based solely on leaks, rumors, and speculation, and should be treated accordingly. That said, check out the two videos below to get a better idea of what the iPhone 6's sapphire display could be like.
