Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to boast ultrasonic cover for users with visual-related disabilities

With the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 getting closer to its debut on Sept. 3, a new report now details an intriguing ultrasonic cover to go along with the phablet.

Each time Samsung announces a new flagship device, it also unveils an extensive range of official accessories. Such accompanying accessories usually include protective cases, screen protectors, designer covers, wireless charging back cases, and other such.

According to an exclusive new report from SamMobile, Samsung plans to take things to the next level with its upcoming Galaxy Note 4 flagship phablet. The publication claims to have learned from sources that the company is developing an Ultrasonic Cover for the Note 4, aiming to make things easier for people with vision-related disabilities.

"According to our sources, the cover consists of an ultrasonic sensor which detects nearby objects in front of the person and provides feedback, appropriately," SamMobile notes. "Users will also be able to change the range of ultrasonic signals and choose between three levels: short, middle and long. However, as the user increases the range of ultrasonic signals, the width of the area covered by the ultrasonic sensor will get narrower."

The site even managed to obtain a description of the accessory. The description points out that the product is by no means intended to diagnose, cure, treat, or prevent any disease, as it is not a medical device.

"It cannot replace a cane and should never be used as a mobility aid or substitute for any mobility aid tool. It must always be used in combination with a cane, a dog guide, or a human guide because, by itself, it does not provide information necessary for safe travel."

The description further includes other warnings and disclaimers, but the potential for this ultrasonic cover for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 sounds quite amazing.

As a reminder, Samsung has scheduled an Unpacked Episode 2 event for Sept. 3, ahead of the IFA 2014 trade show, and the next-generation Galaxy Note 4 phablet is expected to be the star of the event. The phablet is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year and should boast notable improvements over its predecessor, but no specs, features, or accessories are officially confirmed at this point. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
