Samsung Galaxy A7 may be company’s thinnest handset to date, expected soon

The much-rumored Samsung Galaxy A7 may well be the company's slimmest smartphone to date, and it seems ready for prime time soon enough.

When news first surfaced regarding Samsung's new Galaxy A series, all reports indicated that it would consist of three full-metal handsets: the Galaxy A3, Galaxy A5, and Galaxy A7.

Samsung has long been criticized for its love of plastic even in its highest-end devices, even while its competitors offered devices with premium build materials. The company took a first step in the right direction with its Galaxy Alpha, which boasts a metal frame, and the Galaxy A series takes things to the next level.

Not too long ago, Samsung took the wraps off the entry-level Galaxy A3 and the mid-range Galaxy A5, but made no mention whatsoever of the higher-end Galaxy A7. Nevertheless, the top model of the lineup has been spotted on several occasions so far and it now seems it has received certification from TENAA, China's equivalent of the FCC, suggesting an imminent debut.

Based on such regulatory approval details out of China, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy A7 will rock an ultrathin 6.3mm chassis, which is half a millimeter thinner than the much-touted Galaxy Alpha. This could make it Samsung's thinnest handset ever.

As Phone Arena first reported, the TENAA listing (translated) also offers some details on the overall hardware specs of the device. The Samsung Galaxy A7 is expected to sport a 5.5-inch Full HD display with a 1080p resolution, a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 octa-core processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage capacity, a 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 5-megapixel front shooter suitable for selfies and video chats.

Just like the Galaxy A3 and Galaxy A5 models that are already official, the upcoming Galaxy A7 should boast superior aesthetics and a full-metal body, and this model seems to be targeting the high end of the mid-range segment of the smartphone market.

TENAA certification suggests that a formal launch is just around the corner, but it remains unclear at this point whether this model will launch exclusively in China or hit other markets worldwide as well. Samsung offered no information regarding its Galaxy A7 so far, but is expected to provide more details shortly.

We'll make sure to keep you up to date as soon as more information becomes available regarding the higher-end Samsung Galaxy A7, so stay tuned.
