Samsung Galaxy S6 tougher than Galaxy S6 Edge, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus (VIDEO)

The Samsung Galaxy S6 has beat the curved-display Galaxy S6 Edge, as well as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in a new durability test.

There has been considerable uproar recently regarding the durability of Samsung's new generation smartphones, especially in what concerns the Galaxy S6 Edge. The curved-display smartphone nearly revived the whole "bendgate" fiasco surrounding the iPhone 6 Plus last year, after tests found that it bent just like Apple's phablet while also being more prone to suffer notable screen damage.

Warranty service provider SquareTrade has now conducted a few tests to determine the durability of the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Edge, and found the Galaxy S6 to be to most durable of all.

The new Samsung Galaxy S6 flagship was apparently the least bendable of the bunch, withstanding 110 pounds of pressure. The Galaxy S6 Edge cracked under the same amount of pressure, while the iPhone 6 Plus bent and the iPhone 6 separated near its volume button.

In the slide test, the new-generation Galaxy smartphones slid farther than the rest, as they come with glass backs. As SquareTrade notes, they slid twice as far as the plastic Galaxy S5, for instance. The drop test was more impressive for the Galaxy handsets, as they didn't break even after being dropped six times from six feet high. The iPhone 6 Plus broke apart and stopped working after 30 minutes. In the dunk test, which involved submerging the smartphones in water for 10 seconds, all handsets performed equally.

The breakability score, meanwhile, takes into account the physical characteristics of each device, as well as their performance in the drop, dunk, slide, and bend tests, to determine their breakability.

"The higher a device scores, the higher the risk of it breaking due to an everyday accident," SquareTrade explains.

After conducting its tests, the warranty provider concluded that the Samsung Galaxy S6 was more durable than the Galaxy S6 Edge, the iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus, scoring a medium risk breakability score.

It's worth pointing out, however, that while such tests are designed to give us a better idea of how devices may perform, they cannot always reflect exactly how durable the smartphones actually are in the real world. That said, check out Square Trade's tests in the video below to see for yourself how the Samsung Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus fare in drop, slide, dunk, and bend tests.
