'Stellaris' Review: Game Is Both Boring And Thrilling

Paradox Development Studio is deemed as one of the finest in the industry when it comes to developing 4X strategy games. However, when "Stellaris" was released, it did not exactly sit well with most fans. While playing it can be a thrilling experience, it is still boring in one way or another.

The company first took the market by storm through its tent poles "Hearts of Iron" and "Europa Universalis." These games championed Paradox Development Studio in the genre. Hence, many believed that "Stellaris" might raise the bar higher and meet expectations.

However, according to The National, the complexity that "Stellaris" offers made it almost impossible for gamers (especially the new ones) to like it at point blank. It is like a dagger that pierces right through its heart, killing the game itself.

"Stellaris" became too complicated to play, thus becomes boring in the long run. The gameplay systems are just quite unnecessary, while the tutorial is irritatingly long.

If players want to build their own ships or even create their own alien race, they have to deal with a wide range of options. Sure, some of them can be of utmost importance in the end, but only few can make a player feel satisfied.

Nonetheless, "Stellaris" still thrives, thanks to the beauty of its exploration. Unlike any other games, Paradox Development Studio's latest entry gives players the excitement of discovering something new, according to Game Rant.

But then again, having a huge exploration window can be a double-edged sword for the players. This is most especially if they do not have concrete scientific knowledge and hate the feeling of going deep into the unknown. After all, they simply want a game that they can enjoy for the rest of the day, instead of having to inspect what just had happened.

Simply put, "Stellaris" is a game that is somehow developed for the veteran fans of Paradox Development Studio's lineups. And while playing it can result to a thrilling ride, the overall experience is just plain boring.
