"Edge of Nowhere" is among the few games these days that can successfully make a gamer play for a couple of hours, without noticing it. It has all the elements of a third-person action adventure games and is very interesting game to play.
"Edge of Nowhere" finds players in the midst of an icy wasteland located in Antarctica. Out in this chilly wilderness, they are left with nothing but a pickaxe, a shotgun and a handful of rocks. Fortunately, this is be enough for players to go up against archaic species or is it?
According to Road To Virtual Reality, one of the nicest things about "Edge of Nowhere" is that it forces players to be creative and find a way to conserve available resources. With this, they are forced to make a very educated decision, like whether or not they should utilize the last shotgun shell they have. Otherwise, they will face death in the hands of a monstrous creature.
Since "Edge of Nowhere" forces players to battle monsters, the combat can be intense in a satisfying way. Regardless of the weapon -- be it the pickaxe or the shotgun -- players have to ensure survival by using the Oculus Rift's head tracking in order to aim their weapons. But of course, they always have the option to utilize the rocks, probably in hope to at least distract their opponents.
It is worth noting that game is one of the very first VR games developed by Insomniac Games. The titular and acclaimed studio is best known for "Ratchet & Clank," "Sunset Overdrive" and "Resistance" among others.
As for the company's VR debut, Kotaku notes that Insomniac successfully placed their trademark style like a fast-paced environment and intense gameplay. "Edge of Nowhere" only shows the excellence of the people behind the studio, despite the game being their first VR title.
While it remains a question of whether or not "Edge of Nowhere" should be the standard for virtual reality games, there is nothing about it that cannot be commended. Insomniac Games has yet again proved themselves in the market.
