Galaxy Note 7 Relaunch in South Korea Not Happening On Sept. 28; Samsung Extends Refund, Replacement Period

Contrary to what had been announced before, Samsung Electronics will no longer be holding the relaunch of the infamous Galaxy Note 7 phablet on Sept. 28. The company has moved said relaunch on Oct. 1, three days after the original date.

Samsung Galaxy Note 7 will officially be relaunched in South Korea on Oct. 1. According to a Samsung statement, moving the relaunch of the Galaxy Note 7 in its home country to Oct. 1 will give more time for device owners to have their units exchanged as returning of defective items after Oct. 1 would no longer be allowed.

As stated in a report from Reuters, the move is "needed for speedy completion of the ongoing recall in the country."

This means, processing of defective Galaxy Note 7 beyond the said date will be difficult so device owners are urged to have their units replaced at the soonest time possible. Samsung expected that recall rate of the device will drastically drop if new sales will begin on Sept. 28. However, this is no longer the case.

Globally, the South Korean giant released at least 2.5 million units of their flagship phablet in 10 key markets, including Asia, Europe and Northern America. Last Sept. 2, the company pronounced immediate recall of its products for refund and replacement following a spate of consumer complaints regarding faulty battery which caused fire and explosion.

In their home country alone, around 400,000 defective units were sold. Of those, about only 200,000 have turned in their device. The company noted that the recall pace is signicantly slower than Singapore or United States.

The company has also announced that it will be relaunching its sales of the phablet in Singapore and Australia by October. Even so, Samsung admitted that it still has roadblocks to encounter in the recall process in these countries.

In another report, Samsung executives have met officials of the aviation regulatory body in India following the reported explosion of Galaxy Note 7 inside an IndiGo airbus last Sept. 23. Said airbus was traveling from Singapore to India.

The incident happened during landing of the IndiGo airbus at the Chennai International Airport.
