A bezel-less smartphone concept was unveiled by Sharp at this year's CEATECH, a technology expo in Japan, the company's own turf. Sharp, which already had a bezel-less smartphone with its introduction of Aquos Crystal or the Aquos Xx, takes the idea of this particular design a little much further.
Sharp Takes Bezel-less Design Into the Next Level
As reported on The Verge, the concept phone is called Sharp Corner R and utilizes the company's free-form display technology that allows the cutting of IGZO LCD panel into shapes as intended. Thereby achieving, save for some space at the bottom that houses the logo, a seamless bezel-less design.
The smartphone concept sports a 5.2-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 that translates to a pixel per inch of 425. The bezel-less smartphone commands attention with its rounded corners and a jaw-dropping 90 percent screen-to-body ratio, according to Android Headlines.
Sharp is Setting Up to be an Innovator
Sharp, which was recently bought by Foxconn in February for 3.5 billion dollars as Reuters reported, is a Japan based company that specializes in developing and manufacturing displays for use at various products. The famous take over may have yielded its first success story with the company's conception of the free-form technology that may change the game in display-making industry and stop playing catch-up with leaders like Samsung with its OLED technology.
As reported also by Android Headlines, the bezel-less phone by Sharp does not have any other tech specifications yet nor a target release date. Though not all concept phone would come into fruition, this one in particular would be of interest to anyone who is looking for a unique design. To put it mildly, most of the smartphone's design today follows a unified approach of doing the bland usual. Sharp, on the other hand, is testing the waters with a bezel-less design that shouts premium on first look.
