"Narcos" Season 3 kicks off its filming and shares its first production photo. The said photo not only confirms the series' progress but also the return of DEA Agent Javier Peña as portrayed by Pedro Pascal.
On October 12, the official Twitter account of "Narcos" posted a photo of Javier Peña standing on a podium. The said photo implies that the DEA agent is delivering a press conference assumed to be related to the controversial death of the drug kingpin Pablo Escobar. The said photo was captioned with:" The blow must go on. Pablo might be dead but the war is not over. Season 3 of #Narcos has begun filming."
The said photo is strong evidence that Pascal will reprise his role for "Narcos" Season 3. It can be recalled that in season 2, Peña was assigned to handle the case of Pablo Escobar. However, the agency pulled him back even before Escobar was arrested.
According to a previous report here in iTech Post, the real-life Peña confirmed that he did not take part in the Cali Cartel's case. Thus, his role in "Narcos" Season 3 remains to be a blur. "I'd probably have to look at what Peña's role would be in the Cali, in taking down Cali," Newman said in an interview. "I love working with Pedro Pascal, so nothing would make me happier than to be back in business with him in some way," he added.
Meanwhile, his partner, Steve Murphy, portrayed by Boyd Holbrook, has not been confirmed to return in "Narcos" Season 3. Based on facts and history, Murphy did not stay long in Colombia following Pablo Escobar's death. It was said that the agent returned to the US in June 1994.
On the other hand, the Cali Cartel has been confirmed to be the series' next drug lords after Pablo Escobar's death. The notorious group will be headed by Gilberto Orejuela (Damian Alcazar) and his brother Miguel Rodriguez (Fransisco Denis). Helmer "Pancho" Herrera (Alberto Ammann) and Jose "Chepe" Santacruz-Londono will also be a huge part of the Cali Cartel in "Narcos" Season 3.
It was reported that the Cali Cartel and Pablo Escobar have different methods of running their drug businesses. This makes the Cali Cartel less violent and more political than Pablo Escobar. Reports also claim that the Cali Cartel's arc is more likely to be covered in one season since the group didn't last very long. The fall of Gilberto Orejuela 's group will signal the emergence of the Mexican cartel in season 4.
