Blizzard has undeniably amazing staff when it comes to lore building and character developments. Their prominent titles, World of Warcraft, Diablo, Starcraft and even Overwatch have all amazing lores behind them. With the latest success of World of Warcraft (film) and TV show Skylanders: Academies, Blizzard is now considering moving their prominent titles into the small and big screens altogether.
One of Activision Blizzard's top execs, Stacey Sher has implied that Blizzard is now taking a new course towards its growth and development. As it would appear, its vast community is well receiving their games' TV and Movie adaptations which have garnered a considerable amount of income over the past couple of months.
With the success of Skylanders: Academies, the game's franchise has now skyrocketed up to around £2.5 billion which is pretty insane for just a single game. If the Skylanders have seen enormous success, then its famous and classic titles, Starcraft and Diablo will definitely shine as well. A lot of fans were clamoring for a movie adaptation of these big titles since the past. Another title that Blizzard is considering is its famous FPS, Overwatch.
The growing community of Blizzard certainly gives a definitive advantage for its future movie and TV adaptation plans that even one of the boss of Activision, Nick Van Dyke, has this to say: "Franchises don't grow on trees," he tells Newsbeat. "We don't worry about competition because we know these franchises are so beloved that if we do a proper service to our fans, make the best content we can, then they'll be success."
To be fair, Blizzard has not just accumulated a lot of fans globally with all its diverse titles and franchises that cater a lot of gamers, the company also made amazing storylines behind its games that have proven trackrecords. With all of these under their belt, it's been a wonder to many why Blizzard has yet to decide to create movie adaptations on its several accomplished titles most notably Starcraft and Diablo universe.
If we assume that Blizzard is now taking the initiative to create movie and TV titles, we can expect the appearance of either Starcraft, Diablo or Overwatch in the next two years or so. Hopefully Blizzard will stick with the lore of their games instead of taking the famous "Hollywood twists" which are prevalent in most movie adaptations.
