TV shows are influential - so much that they have the innate ability to move their audience to tears and in a fraction of a second, paint warm smiles and laughter on their faces.
Australian drama “Wentworth” has proved its popularity to international countries. Every episode is highly anticipated due to its explosive reveals and realistic approach on the lives of the inmates inside the prison.
When the beloved character of Bea Smith died in a tragic way, the fans of the popular series are but devastated. To say that her death is killing the show is just right. Without her, the followers and the cast feel empty.
In an interview with After Ellen, Kate Jenkinson (Allie Novak) expressed her sadness on the shocking downfall of Bea.
”On a selfish note, it means I don’t get to work with Dan anymore, and that’s devastating. And who is Allie if not the love of Bea’s life? So there were so many questions, but the more I thought about it and the more I spoke to Danielle about it—who is incredibly philosophical and understood the long game a lot better than I did—I began to change my opinion about whether it was a good idea or not.”
Their romance better known as Ballie got killed too. Jenkinson is right. It’s difficult to move on from a great relationship that was strengthened with love and tough challenges.
Despite the protests of the show’s followers following Bea’s untimely downfall, Jenkinson believes that the soap is brave enough to have arrived in a risky decision of murdering Bea.
“Especially for Wentworth, I feel like it’s quite fitting because the world is not safe. The Wentworth world is not safe. No one is safe, even if you’re Top Dog. Even if you’re the central character. So I think it’s a really brave choice for the producers to have made. And we’ll see! We’ll see what the outcome of that is. But personally, I like watching television that takes risks, and I feel like that’s what we’ve done here,” the actress added.
The huge fan base of the show especially that of Bea’s is still in the denial stage of the grieving process. Various speculations have been raised like an alternate finale of “Wentworth” season 4 might be released showing Bea in a comatose state as she tries to fight for her life. Another theory is that she might make a cameo as a ghost.
Bea is dead. It is official. The showrunners admitted their bold decision of killing the character and wiping out Cormack from future episodes.
“It is always an incredibly difficult decision to say farewell to a much-loved and revered characters like Bea Smith which is why this storyline has had such a huge impact on us all and we are sure fans will feel the same. This decision was particularly hard as it meant also saying goodbye to Danielle Cormack,” producer Jo Porter affirmed.
Will Liam Hemsworth’s alleged appearance in the fifth installment of the soap compensate for Bea’s loss? Is there any other character that can live out to the expectations of the viewers?
