Klay Thompson has always been the second go to guy in the Warriors rotation. But ever since the team has acquired the services of a certain Kevin Durant, his role has somewhat been reduced to a third or even fourth option. This has led some to believe that the sharpshooter is getting quite frustrated with his role and may be seeking to take his talents somewhere else. Here are the three teams that are interested in making a trade for him:
Even before Thompson has shared the floor with Kevin Durant, there were already signs that their relationships will not be all roses and pats in the back. According to FOX Sports, when Klay was asked if he was willing to sacrifice some ball time for Kevin Durant, this is what the shooting guard had to say:
"I feel kind of disrespected that people keep using the term sacrifice to describe me and describe us. We all want to see each other do well. But I'm not sacrificing [expletive] because my game isn't changing. I'm still going to try to get buckets, hit shots, come off screens. I want to win and have a fun time every game we play."
Well that does not seem Klay was willing to take a step down for the "Slim Reaper."
And recently, Klay responded to KD's comments that he was quite happy that the Warriors lost to the Cavs last season by saying those words were, "messed up."
And it seems like the Warriors have taken notice and may be willing to part with Thompson instead of their prized free agent acquisition, Durant. And if things start falling apart for the Warriors this season, here are the top three teams that could land the three-point specialist.
Orlando Magic
As Thompson becomes less and less valuable for the Warriors, the team just might pull the trigger to get someone like Serge Ibaka. Getting Serge will not only address the warrior's woeful interior defense, he will also fit in their spacing scheme with his good jump shooting.
While this may seem like a one-sided trade for the Magic, getting Ibaka may be a better fit for the Warriors in terms of getting the championship puzzle right.
Minnesota Timberwolves
This one would involve a blockbuster trade. As there are rumors that a potential Wiggins-Thompson trade could be brewing. While I see this as more beneficial to Minnesota than the Warriors. There is also some benefits for the Warriors in getting Wiggins like more variety in the offense as well as a slightly better defense.
Boston Celtics
The Celtics have been in almost every trade rumors in the NBA today. And that is because besides being a palatable city for NBA players, they also have a bevy of assets as well as a great coach in Brad Stevens.
So it is no wonder that they could also be in the Klay Thompson sweepstakes. According to this rumor, the Celtics could give up Avery Bradley, Amir Johnson, and a first-round pick.
While this trade might seem insane, it does have some benefits for the Warriors. One is that they get to beef up their bench just a bit (which is lacking this season) while the other is getting a good pick for the next season.
