'Haikyuu!!' Season 3 Episode 7 Recap, Episode 8 Spoilers: Sugawara Spikes, Satori And Ushijima Out To Break Karasuno's Spirit

“Haikyuu!!” is now down to its last three episodes before the third season comes to an end. The finale of Episode 6 saw Hinata becoming a whole new weapon as Karasuno wins the fourth set, leading them into the fifth and final set with Shiratorizawa.

Episode 7 titled “Obsession” was just aired on Nov. 18 and it picks up before the fifth set starts. Sugawara has just been placed as pinch setter to substitute for the exhausted Kageyama. Sugawara, despite being a reliable senior player, gets cold feet.

Unexpectedly, Shimizu comforts him as she silently held his hands, surprising not just Sugawara, but the rest of the team. Shimizu is Karasuno volleyball team’s beloved manager and they would do anything to protect her. With this sudden scene, does this consider as an introduction to Sugawara and Shimizu’s possible love line in the shounen anime?

Moving on, Karasuno makes the first break in the set with two points ahead of Shiratorizawa, making the latter force a timeout. The set continues and Shiratorizawa retaliates strong, reminding Karasuno that they’re not a force to reckon with. A flashback of Shiratorizawa’s past was introduced featuring the background of Satori and Ushijima on how they became the scary volleyball players they are.

Satori being a guess monster goes all the way back in his younger years that despite his uncanny skills, his coach in his previous team discouraged him and said there are limits to an individual's skills. Satori comes from a sad past as a child who was feared and isolated by many because of the way he thinks. After meeting with Shiratorizawa’s monster coach, he tells Satori that he doesn’t care what Satori wants to do so long as he can score.

It puts into light the unlikely relationship between Ushijima and Satori as the former opens about his father, a former Shiratorizawa volleyball player. It heads back to the present game between Shiratorizawa and Karasuno with the latter suddenly having difficulties to score. Ushijima slams them with a spike, telling them he can change the course of the ball anyway he likes.

Karasuno counters and scores with an upgraded synchronized attack, with setter Sugawara spiking after libero Nishinoya sets for him. Shiratorizawa is flabbergasted at how reckless Karasuno gets as they left every position open during the attack. Tsukishima is suddenly injured after going against Ushijima’s deadly spike, leaving Karasuno in a pinch.

Karasuno gets into trouble as Satori plays serious and puts a stop to Sugawara’s new attacks. Will Karasuno make it unscathed as they win the fifth and final set against Shiratorizawa? “Haikyuu!!” Season 3 Episode 8, titled “An Annoying Guy” will air this weekend.
