Valve just announced Steam Awards to recognize the most talked about games in Steam history. This is a way to appreciate the most popular ones, but some notorious titles should be getting nervous now. The premade nominations are funny, but the fan made ones are just downright hilarious.
Steam's Predetermined Awards
There are eight categories for players to nominate a game in. The first one the "Test of Time" award, which is perhaps the most normal name in the bunch. It quickly goes weird after that. Next comes "I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye" award that should go to the most tear-jerking game of all time.
Then we have the "Just 5 More Minutes" award and the "Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!" There's really no specific qualification for a game to be nominated here, it just needs to make you scream "Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!" for any reason at all.
Know of a particularly salty villain? Nominate the game for the "Villain Most In Need Of A Hug" category. We also have the "Game Within A Game" award and "I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award" The last predetermined category in Steam Awards is the "Best Use Of A Farm Animal" award.
'We Didn't Think Of Everything Award'
This is the part in Steam Awards where fans get to put in an award they want. There is a Selection Committee, the Senior Members of which are tasked to review the submissions and create a new category based on that.
Some of the funniest Steam Awards found on Twitter by Kotaku are "Sickest Jojo Reference Of The Century Award" for the game Roundabout. The disastrous year 2016 did not also go unnoticed when Twitter user @FingersTehHand nominated Inside for "Most Accurate Depiction Of A Post-2016 World." Mafia III, which clearly disappointed players, is a contender for the "Rushed For The Holidays" award, though we can think of others in this category.
We also have incredibly long Steam Awards nomination titles. Can you guess which game was nominated for the "Last Game In a Long-Standing Franchise Because The Developer Has Moved On To More Profitable Ventures" award? Yep. Half-Life 2: Episode Two. On the other hand, Mad Max is nominated for "Best Open World Literally No One Could See Through The Forest Of Open World Games" award.
No Man's Sky And Half-Life 3
Players took the chance to air out their disappointment with No Man's Sky. "Biggest Lie of 2016," "Scam Of The Century" and "Most Hyped 2016 Letdown" are only some of the nominations it got in Steam Awards.
The funnier ones include "The Cake That Glados Was Talking About," "Best Tech Demo 2016" and "Please Do Not Buy This Game." In a Reddit poll, the "Please Do Not Buy This Game" award is winning with 26 percent of voters as of this writing.
Of course, fans are also using this opportunity to reach out to Gaben. A Steam user nominated Half-Life 2: Episode Two for the "GameThat Deserves A Sequel" award in the off-chance that the PC Master Race's lord and savior is listening. The thread "Let Valve Know" created by Redditor GruffBarbarian now has almost 800 comments supporting the cause.
Did you cast your votes yet? Let us know which games you voted for and what category you made up! You have until Nov. 29 to participate in the nominations.
