As if the HTC One M7 weren't already a packed device, users now have the ability to do even more with the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean run smartphone, thanks to a newly available rootkit and resulting Root Guide.
Do note that the needed recoveries are not yet fully functional and some users have complained about failing to reboot into a certain recovery.
If gaining full control of your M7 in this way is something you "root" for, then follow this step-by-step Root Guide to get going.
Preparations:
First you'll need an unlocked bootloader. Visit HTCDev and choose "All other supported models" as your device.
You'll also need recovery images: CWM Touch, CWM, TWRP.
Then you'll need to download the Fast Boot Package for HTC One, as well as the SuperUser package.
As always, BACK UP YOUR DEVICE.
Directions
Step 1: Extract the image file out of the Fast Boot Package zip.
Step 2: Rename the recovery file image "recovery.img" and place it where fastboot.exe is.
Step 3: Copy the SuperUser file to the phone's storage/ SD card.
Step 4: Turn off the device. Then boost into fastboot mode by holding down the Power button and the Volume Down key at the same time and then choosing 'Fastboot' from the menu using the 'Power' button.
Step 5: Connect the device to the computer. Open a command window, go to the directory where fastboot.exe is located and enter this command: "fastboot boot recovery.img"
Step 6: The device should now boot into recovery mode. Select "install zip from sdcard" and choose the SuperUser package for installation.
Step 7: Once the installation is complete, reboot the device.
Congratulations! Your HTC One M7 is now rooted. You may want to take a look at the SuperUser app in the app drawer to verify that your device has been successfully rooted.
