‘101 Dalmatians' Spinoff Is Good To Go; Emma Stone’s ‘Cruella’ Lands Alex Timbers As Director

Fans are getting treated to another movie that stars Emma Stone. The actress has landed the lead role for the upcoming “Cruella” movie. Aside from that, the movie is set for production as it finally found a director to work on it.

After creating wonders for starring in the recently released, “La La Land” along with Ryan Gosling, it has been announced that Emma Stone will be working on the three upcoming productions. One of her notable upcoming projects is her starring in the live action film, “Cruella”. The movie will be a spinoff from the classic Walt Disney animated film, “One Hundred and One Dalmatians”, which was released in 1961. The said animated movie was based on the children’s novel, “The Hundred and One Dalmatians”, which was written by Dodie Smith and published in 1956.

The movie, as hinted by the official title, will focus on the villainess, Cruella de Vil. Cruella is a character portrayed rich and famous, and who also happens to love fur—real fur. Based on the story in the original novel, she wanted to be garbed in an authentic spotted fur coat that she hired a couple of goons to kidnap and skin 101 Dalmatian puppies. But of course, Cruella’s plans are thwarted as canines of various breeds unite to save the poor puppies.

Just recently, the “Cruella” movie starring Emma Stone is said to be moving into production as it has finally signed up a director to work on it. Alex Timbers, who was famous for creating the award-winning Amazon series, “Mozart in the Jungle”, have agreed to direct the film. The movie was reportedly planned and finally announced after Walt Disney’s “Maleficent” enjoyed successful box office records. “Maleficent” was also a spinoff movie that focused on the villain from “Sleeping Beauty”.

“Cruella” will be the second live-action film adaptation of “101 Dalmatians” as a spinoff was already released back in 1996 that starred Glenn Close as Cruella de Vil as well. Walt Disney has yet to make more announcements regarding “Cruella”, meanwhile Emma Stone will also be starring in the upcoming productions, “Battle of the Sexes” and “Love May Fail”.
