When Game Freak and Nintendo released Pokémon Sun and Moon last month, Mega Evolution is one of the features in the previous installments that took the back seat. Players however can still use this feature to help Pokémon reach new stages of evolution, although it entails much effort more effort. Mega Evolution allows some classic Pokémon to transform into monstrous new forms once each duel. It gives the evolving Pokémon a strong transformation, including Charizard, Blastoise, Alakazam, Gyrados and Mewtwo, among many others.

Before players can evolve a Pokémon into a new whole form, they will need the Mega Stone. To get this special item, players can find it in the shop at the Battle Tree in Ancient Poni Path. However, the shop only accepts Battle Points in exchange for the Mega Stone which means players have to win battles and get points so they could purchase the item.

Apart from the Mega Stone, another key to Mega Evolution is the Mega Ring. Players can get only get this after beating the Elite Four. Once done, proceed to the Battle Tree in Ancient Poni Path on Poni Island. Before reaching the Battle Tree though, players will have to beat along the way Sibb and Dexio. Once they're defeated, Dexio will reward players a Mega Ring and a Mega Stone for Alakazam.

To Mega Evolve a Pokémon, a trainer must wear the Mega Ring before feeding the Mega Stone. One Pokémon however has a unique way to Mega Evolve as it does not need a Mega Stone. Rayquaza needs to learn the Dragon Ascent move instead to Mega Evolve. Players can learn this move from the old man in the PokéCenter in Seafolk Village on Poni Island.
