Blizzard celebrated the 20th anniversary of Diablo and to commemorate one of the pioneering and prominent titles of the studio, game developers has incorporated an Easter Egg quest for players to recollect their experience of playing the classic installment of the franchise. Today, we're going to show you how to unlock the secret chest by solving the Easter Egg quest chain.
Diablo 3 Darkening Of Tristram Guide: Unlocking Bovine Pet
As you may have known by now, Blizzard has added a new portal that would take you back into the past - particularly in Tristram. In Diablo II, this area is where you'll rescue Deckard Cain and also where you can find the Wirt's Leg, an item that players used to unlock the secret dungeon, Secret Cow Level. Now, in Diablo III, developers added a rather more intricate Easter Egg for the Secret Cow Level and that is through a quest chain to unlock the Bovine pet. Here's how you can get the elusive and secret item:
Find Rotten Mushroom
Warning: Do Not Touch The Cows Yet. The dead cows are part of the quest chain and thus, by touching them early on will automatically void the entire process. Now, let's move forward. Upon entering the first layer or two of caves, look for the black mushrooms. Click it and you'll get Rotten Mushroom.
Use Rotten Mushroom On Cauldron In Old Tristram
Teleport to Old Tristram and head north towards the dungeon. Turn right into the curved detour. Here, you will find the cauldron in an old shack. Click the cauldron and you'll automatically use the Rotten Mushroom. You will then obtain the Witch's Brew. Again, do not touch the Dead Cows yet. They will take part at the end part of the quest.
Revive Farnham
Head back to the burnt houses - to where all named corpse are lying, scattered on the ground. Find Farnham, located at the southern-most corner of the field. Give him the Witch's Brew and his ghost will then reward you with Drunkard's Debt.
Revive the Villagers
Give the Drunkard's Debt to Ogden. You'll then receive Garda's Letter. Take this to Pepin and he'll then give you the Healer's Prescription which contains the "schematics for a child's wooden leg." - sounds familiar?
Afterwards, take this to the corpse of the blacksmith and you'll obtain plan for Wirt's Leg.
Craft Wirt's Leg
Teleport back to home town. Give the plan to the Blacksmith so you can start crafting Wirt's Leg. Note, the Blacksmith will charge you 1 million gold for this. It doesn't provide much but salvaging the item will give you Map To The Stars. The description reads numbers 2, 1, 3 and a hoof print. Now head back to Tristram for the final step.
Revive the Cows
Head back to the cauldron (where you made the Witch's Brew) then click on the dead cows. The numbers 2, 1, 3 corresponds to the middle, left and right. If you click the cows in that order, you'll then gain access to a secret area which contains a chest that will give you the Bovine pet.
Note that if you accidentally touched the dead cows earlier in the game, you won't be able to unlock this special item anymore - unless you create a new game.
