2016 saw the successful release of Bethesda's remastered version of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and with that in mind, people have been wondering if the studio has any plans on remastering other games in the franchise like Oblivion or Morrowind. The bad news is, it isn't going to happen.
According to Attack of the Fan Boy, Bethesda's PR Vice President Pete Hines has commented on the possibilities of anymore remakes in the Elder Scrolls franchise, and he says that it's not very likely. Hines has said that it's more important for the company to tread new ground or introduce the next step for a franchise than to go back and remake something that they've already done.
Hines has also said that the main reason why the company had decided to release the remastered edition of Skyrim was because of Fallout 4. He says, "Skyrim was more about the work that Bethesda Game Studios had done in the early days of getting ready for Fallout 4 on this generation of consoles - moving the Skyrim engine and doing some work to run it on this generation of consoles just to see how it worked, and so forth, before they started doing all their Fallout stuff."
No doubt, people will be sad to hear that the company isn't working on any remakes of the older Elder Scrolls games, but at least they can look forward to more sequels that will make them explore further into the world of Tamriel. And even if The Elder Scrolls VI doesn't come out this year, there are always more titles to look forward to from Bethesda. With titles like Dishonored and Fallout under their belt, fans should be assured that Bethesda has a bright future ahead of them.
Elder Scrolls VI may not be out in a while, but at least fans can play the updated version of Skyrim which is available now.
