Earlier this week, Blizzard has finally released the details regarding Overwatch's upcoming patch. The said patch will feature several tweaks playable characters' abilities, in-game additions and bug fixes. Apparently, it is now available under Overwatch's public test realm where the future patch is being tested by the players before it will be uploaded in the live server. However, the recent tweaks made on some of the heroes caused a huge backlash from the fans. As a result, Blizzard recently speaks out regarding this issue.
D.VA is one of the characters affected on this upcoming update. According to the report from Attack of the Fanboy, the patch improves her health points. However, her armor has been reduced. In addition, D.Va's damage consistency has been improved and in exchange, her overall power was decreased.
Overwatch's Lead Designer Geoff Goodman said that D.Va's damage per shot is now becoming more consistent than before as her shots fill in her spread more evenly. For instance, you will see a greater variety in damage fallouts than you would on the PTR if you will take that similar shot a couple of times. In addition, he added that the tweak made on her damage is planned to be a minor nerf.
When it comes to the adjustment made on D.Va's armor and health, he said that some heroes such as Reaper, which is considered to be great on taking down tanks, is having trouble piercing through her Matrix. With a lowered armor, D.Va has now legitimate counters. However, fans might now worry much as she still has the skill to counter many heroes and abilities in the game, particularly since her Defense Matrix stays as is.
With D.Va receiving numerous complaints regarding how to effectively deal with her, the current nerf done by the company makes sense to maintain and level the balance on the battlefield. In addition, it is worth noting that these tweaks are still on the PTR and might subject to change when the actual patch will be released. Meanwhile, Goodman said that if they received enough evidence that D.Va has been nerfed too much, they are willing to go back and create some extra changes.
