Why It Will Take Years For Bethesda To Develop Fallout 5, The Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda is, without a doubt, among the finest developers in the industry. Among the studio's resume includes franchises such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. Hence fans and gamers alike are really looking forward to hearing new games from the company. And obviously, among these titles are The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5. But the question that remains is will these games ever come to reality?

In the past few years, there's been a great deluge of AAA games. However, as the time goes by, the requirements needed to develop such titles grow exponentially as well. And yes, Bethesda is no stranger to this. The studio is even guilty of taking a great amount of years to introduce a new title. In an average, the development cycle of the company is between 4 and 5 years.

According to GamingBolt, Bethesda can't be blamed. That's because games like The Elder Scrolls 6 and Fallout 5 (if these ever gets into pre-production) require robust engines. And take note, there are two factors involved in such topic. It's either the studio moves forward to a new engine or specifically re-design the existing one (fine tune it to the certain title it'll be used to).

Games such as Metal Gear Solid V took that long to be developed for one particular reason -- the devs decided to bring a new engine called FOX Engine. With Bethesda, however, it's a different kind of story. The studio is known for using the same engine over and over again. But still, the question: why does it take them long to develop a brand new game?

The publication states that the video game company is fond of giving so much focus and/or attention to a title's setting. The devs want to make it a bit more believable or something. And of course, such goal definitely require a good amount of time. Nonetheless, the result is very rewarding (talk about the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4).

If this is really the case with Bethesda, there's no doubt that the rumored titles Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls 6 will experience the same process. Because in reality, delivering a consistent, real-looking world isn't a walk in the park. It requires good research process and, of course, thinking from the developers' side.
