Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100 Android 4.1.2 XXDMB1 Jelly Bean Root Available

A root method has become available for the international version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 (model number P3100) running Android 4.1.2 XXDMB1 Jelly Bean.

The root is available thanks to CF-Auto-Root files from XDA developer Chainfire. The root file does not install ClockworkMod (CWM) recovery but SuperSU and root binary only.

3. Back up all data for the device. If custom recovery such as ClockworkMod/TWRP is being installed already, then back up all the data using the same (it creates a complete image of the existing tablet setup).

4. The device should be over 80 percent charged and should be factory unlocked and not locked to a certain carrier.

5. If you root the tablet, the manufacturer's warranty will be voided. However, the warranty can be regained if the device is unrooted.

Directions

1. Download CF-Auto-Root package for the device to the computer, then extract the downloaded zip file.

2. Download Odin v1.85. This will help with rooting.

4. Open Odin on the computer.

5. Plug the USB cable into the tablet to connect it with the computer. When the device is successfully connected, one of the ID: COM boxes will turn yellow with the COM port number. This will take some time.

6. In Odin, click on the "PDA" button and select the file "CF-Auto-Root-espressorf-espressorfxx-gtp3100.zip." This file was extracted in Step 1.

7. Make sure that the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time options are selected in Odin.

8. Do a double check on everything and select the "Start" button in Odin. Installation should now begin and take a few minutes to finish.

9. Once installation is finished, the device will automatically reboot into Recovery Mode. The ID: COM box will turn green.

10. Once you see the home screen, unplug the USB cable from the tablet to disconnect it from the computer.

Troubleshooting

Occasionally the device will not boot into Recovery Mode automatically and root the device. If this is the case, go through the tutorial from the beginning. If that still doesn't work, then do the tutorial again but this time make sure that the Auto Reboot option in Odin is not checked. Then, after step 9, follow these instructions:

a) Remove the battery from the device or hold the Power button to forcefully turn off the tablet.

b) Boot the device into Recovery Mode by pressing and holding the Volume Down and Power buttons together. Installation to root the device will begin.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 P3100 on Android 4.1.2 XXDMB1 Jelly Bean is now succesffully rooted. On the tablet, open the app drawer and look for an app called SuperSU. Also download the app Root Checker from the Google Play Store to make sure that the root was installed successfully.
