The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update has become available for Sprint's version of the Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE.
The Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update is available OTA (over-the-air) and can be checked by going to Settings -> About -> Check for update.
The update brings with it a variety of new features. Google Now leads the pack, along with Project Butter, which allows for smoother overall performance. Other features include Swype, text-to-speech voice, voice typing, Google Map built-in Zagat ratings, Google Map-integrated indoor walking directions and the ability to create and manage Google+ Events from the device. Notifications display, full incoming SMS message text and full photo can be viewed when you receive an MMS. You can also pinch notifications for expansion or collapse. Notifications from the same application are grouped together, with the first item automatically expanded.
The Galaxy Victory 4G LTE has been made available through Sprint since September 2012. The smartphone never made much of a splash, but the device will certainly be more appealing now, given the new upgrade, coupled with its already low price point. Sprint is selling the Samsung Galaxy Victory for just $49.99 with a two-year contract after rebate. Not too shabby for a Jelly Bean-enhanced smartphone with a dual-core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM and a 2,100 mAh battery.
Those interested in purchasing the Galaxy Victory without a contract can do so through Virgin Mobile for $249.99. The Victory has been available through Virgin Mobile with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean since February.
