The Nokia 105, Nokia's lowest-priced mobile phone, is now available in India for Rs 1249.
The Nokia 105 is not a smartphone but rather a basic phone with a few added features. It is the cheapest color-screen phone available in India.
"The Nokia 105 marks the end of black & white screen era in the Indian handset market," Nokia India executive Viral Oza said in a statement to Nokia Conversations. "The very human and fresh design of Nokia 105 makes it distinct in this price range, and utterly modern despite a traditional form factor. Our most affordable device - the Nokia 105, with some of the best category features, is the ideal handset for first time buyers to enjoy the benefits and experiences of mobility."
Having a color-screen phone at this price makes for a welcome change, given that previously only phones with black and white screens could have dropped this low. The Nokia 105 weighs 70 grams and comes with FM radio, an alarm clock, a speaking clock and pre-loaded games. The device also has up to 35 days of standby time.
Nokia has been in a competitive race in India with the likes of Micromax, Samsung, LG and HTC, and it comes as no surprise that the company is trying to boost its market share in the region. By launching the Nokia 105, it appears that part of its strategy is targeting young consumers and those who are first-time buyers.
The Nokia 105 was first shown at Mobile World Congress in February, where it garnered a warm reception.
