NES Classic Edition Modder Successfully Downloads Entire 700 Game Library Into One Console

A few days ago, a hacker showed the gaming world how to add more than 600 games into the NES Classic Edition. Now someone was able to put the entire NES game library into one retro console.

A hacker posted an update to his Hakchi2 mod detailing the steps to add over 600 games to the mini NES Classic. This time, Youtube user TootyUk managed to cram 700 games into the console's library which basically makes up the entire collection of NES and FamiCom games.

TootyUk uploaded a 20-minute video to YouTube showing how he did the feat. The guide covers both Mac and PC so practically everyone with the hard-to-find NES Classic can add up to 700 games by following the instructional video.

Cinema Blend notes that it is possible to own ROMs provided the owner is using the digital file of his or her own paid-for version of the game. In other words, there are no legal repercussions for hacking the NES Classic as long as the owner paid for the game. Legalities aside, there still lingers the question of whether it is right to hack the mini NES.

What are the possible consequences?

The risk here mostly centers on the mini NES console itself. Trusted Reviews pointed out that hacking the NES Classic will void its warranty but that seems like a little price to pay if it means getting to play all the games ever made playable on the NES and FamiCom consoles.

The device was meant to have 30 games only. Despite that fact, the manufacturers expected tech savvy people to get their hands dirty and hack the NES Classic thus the secret message from the Hanafuda Captain. Hacking the mini NES to add more games may bork the device. With the NES Classic's scarcity, it wouldn't be wise to let one bork.

Is it legal?
