In the latest and final Star Trek Into Darkness trailer before the film's May 17 release date, we're treated to quite a massive plot spoiler regarding the sequel's villain, played by Benedict Cumberbatch. Literally massive.
The villain in Star Trek Into Darkness, aside from having Benedict Cumberbatch's terrifying voice, also has a starship several times larger than the U.S.S. Enterprise. In the new Star Trek Into Darkness trailer, we see the villain's ship toe-to-toe with the Enterprise and the contrast in size is truly striking. Since we already knew that the villain in Star Trek Into Darkness will outgun and seemingly outmatch Kirk and Spock et al., the news of his massive ship might not be a very huge plot spoiler, but it's certainly awesome eye candy.
Following is the official, spoiler-free plot synopsis from Paramount for Star Trek Into Darkness. You can check out the new Into Darkness trailer at the bottom of this page.
"In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes 'Star Trek Into Darkness.' When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
